About Adult Education

1. Mission and Vision Statement for Adult Education:

It is the mission of Pleasantville's Adult Education Program to provide its members and the community at large with opportunities to explore, practice and cherish what it means to be a Christian in a 21st century world.

The goals of the program are:

  1. To promote Biblical literacy by enabling participants to know and understand the Biblical story and to apply its teaching to their own everyday lives.
  2. To provide participants with opportunities for spiritual growth and awareness and, thereby, empower them to be disciples of Christ.
  3. To offer, within the framework of Christian teachings and ethics, opportunities for adults to study and have discourse on current secular topics and issues of interest and concern.

2. Current Time Slots for Program Offerings:

  • Sunday Adult School, 8:30 - 9:15am
  • Sunday Adult Forum, 11:00am - 12:00pm
There will be occasions when A.C.E. programs/seminars will be offered on Sunday afternoons and evenings as well as on weekday afternoons and evenings.

3. Class Attendance:

Unless otherwise specified by the instructor, all class sessions are open to all at any time they wish to attend. The nature of the more structured and sequential offerings may obligate participants to attend scheduled class meetings.

4. Books and Fees:

Fees will not be charged for any A.C.E. class. However, it may be necessary for participants to purchase a text or study guide for those course offerings based on a published curriculum or program.

6. Invitation to Volunteers:

We are now planning programs for fall and mid-winter and we would like to invite you to join our teaching staff for one or more sessions on Sunday mornings in either of our two adult education time slots; Adult Sunday School, 8:30 -9:30 and Sunday Adult Forum, 11:00-12:00.

If you have a topic of interest(secular or spiritual) or expertise in an area that you would feel comfortable sharing with the congregation, please contact Jim Tufano, Peggy Dominy, Diane Curran, Cindy Ogle or one of the pastors.

We will do all that we can to assist and support you in this endeavor. You don't need to be a pro to share your thoughts with us in a classroom setting.  Please help us to keep the ball rolling in Adult Christian Education.  Thanks.
