Our Mission to Others is Alive and Growing

Pleasantville United Church of Christ has a long tradition of building partnerships and providing support for people in need in its local community and around the world.  It is the work of our congregation that compliments our worship and makes our church such an enjoyable community of faith.  Our corps of volunteers is strong and our outreach is vibrant.  There is something for everyone and we are confident that your experience will be rewarding.

As needed, help create casseroles for delivery to the homeless and folks who need support in difficult time.

Help with the wonderful decorating that occurs in early December.

"I am the Church, you are the Church, we are the Church together."  The Church Council and Officers manage the affairs and plan for the future of Pleasantville Church.  The Council consists of Officers and Boards of Elders, Deacons, Trustees, and Christian Educators.  Councipersons serve terms of 3 years.  The Elders and Deacons are ordained positions, as they hold an historical mention in the Gospel.

Used, good clothing is collected in the closet under the stairs by the nursery and sent to various needy organizations.  Volunteers are needed about once a month to pack this clothing into boxes so it can be picked up and taken to the thrift store.  Contact the church office if this is something you would like to help with.

There is a table year round for craft sales, but the Alternative Market during the first two Sundays in December is the busy season when your help is essential.  Whatever your craft, there is likely a place for you in this group.

After each service, the flowers are wrapped and given to someone in need of cheer.  This job is assigned monthly.

Welcome members and visitors as they enter the church.  This job is assigned weekly and is an excellent opportunity for your family to meet our fellow parishioners.

As Christians, one of our jobs is to make this world a better place. Pleasantville’s Justice and Witness Committee is a group of people who join together to take on the challenges of the world.  This group meets monthly to study, pray, and creatively plan activities to reach out into the world and help those people in need.

Help keep the kitchen clean for one month each year.

Pleasantville is blessed with libraries for Adults, Youth, and Children.  Volunteers manage our collections and oversee the lending procedures.

There are many opportunities for folks to participate.  With multiple choirs, handbells, accompaniment, and Christmas programs, there are musical opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels.

This group of Pleasantville folk help to assemble the monthly newsletter. They meet in the kitchen monthly to chat, laugh, and work!  Our newsletter is quite impressive and a major undertaking.  We could not do it without these folks.

We are fortunate to have such a fantastic Office Manager.  This job is made quite a bit easier with help from regular help.  There are always jobs to be done in the office and even the best Office Manager needs help, and even vacation, once in a while.

Led by our Minister of Visitation, this team of caring individuals assist the pastors in home and hospital visits.  They gather for monthly training and reflection.

Each week our worship utilizes pulpit assistant who takes an active role in leading the congregation through the days program.

This growing group of volunteers is led by the Justice & Witness Committee.  They are involved in community outreach including leaf clean up for elderly members, refurbishing the community room at the Doylestown Shelter, stocking shelves at the food bank, and lots more. They can be spotted wearing their red shirts while working to provide a visual symbol of the power of enthusiastic volunteers.

What a success story this effort has been!  This group of retired or semi-retired men and women help keep the building looking neat and clean. Each person is assigned a weekly duty to be done at a convenient time. This groups helps to keep the cost of cleaning the church to a minimum.  As a result of their success, Pleasantville has had no need for a hired Sexton for more than a few years.  And it’s not all work....they meet several times a year for breakfast!

Each spring we ask those who garden to think about Pleasantville and the charities we support when they are planning their planting. Throughout the summer, as the crops become ripe, we ask that you bring in your surplus. There is a table in Lentz Hall where these items are placed. All money donated in exchange for items taken goes to the Hunger Action Fund, part of the Neighbors in Need offering.

We are quite fortunate to have a state of the art sound system to support our weekly worship and special programs.  The Sound Crew runs the sound board, prepares recordings, and assists the Music Director.  It's easy to learn and even fun.

No formal training required.  Our teachers and assistants are supported by our Church School Administrator and are provided with everything they need to provide a rich education experience for our children and youth.

Help on Sundays and during Special Services with seating guests and ensuring worship flows smoothly.  Ushers serve on consecutive Sundays for 1 months time.

In this day and age, there is nary an organization that doesn't rely on technology to some extent.  The phones, fax, computers, copiers, and other equipment do not manage themselves and can be daunting at times.  Additionally, our web site uses one of the latest Open Source Content Management Systems, called Joomla.  This framework allows for contributions from many folks, including the Staff, Council, and Members.

This is a Committee of folks interested in enriching worship through music, visual arts, and creative worship environments that coincide with the seasons of the Church year. Those who love worship and who love to be creative are welcome!
